zbrush is pretty cool, but it can be a bit tricky to learn, specially if you are new to 3d. If thats your case, I think you should try Sculptris first. Its free, its easier to use because it takes care of the wireframe for you and it is really easy on your pc as well. But if you want to get into digital sculpting you'll definately need a tablet (not iPad like, but wacom like). Any wacom tablet will do, as long as it comes with a pen. I think you should just go for it, since you already have an eye for sculpting. Your stuff is pretty cool btw. Most of this piece I did on a Core2Duo, 4gb ram, NO graphics card notebook and a $80 bamboo pen.
